Prebuilt gaming PCs under $1,000 are where the industry hides its worst decisions: proprietary power supplies, memory in single-channel, and cases with one fan. These three avoid all of that.

The rules we used

A machine only made this list if it uses standard ATX parts, ships with dual-channel memory, and has a power supply we would keep. Performance matters less than whether you can fix and upgrade the thing in two years.

What to check before you buy anything at this price

Memory configuration. One 16GB stick instead of two 8GB sticks costs you 10-15% of your frame rate in CPU-limited games. It is the single most common cost-cutting trick at this price and it is invisible on a specification sheet unless you look for “2x8GB”.

Power supply brand. If the listing does not name it, assume the worst.

Case airflow. One fan is not enough for any machine with a discrete graphics card.

Our pick

The C5 Starter is the one to buy. It is not the fastest machine here, but every part in it is a part you would have chosen yourself, and nothing inside is a dead end.

When to build instead

If you are comfortable assembling parts, building beats every prebuilt at this budget by roughly one performance tier. If you are not, the gap is not worth the stress.
